Where I'm From
I start in a town, and friendly neighborhood,
playing outside until I can’t see the ball and running home for dinner,
and pizza Thursdays watching Survivor as a family.
I am from weekend trips to the cabin to go on the boat,
being afraid to touch the cold water as we Ski, tube, and eating our packed lunches on the boat,
and walking on the golf course, feeling the fresh cut grass on my bare feet, playing the hole before the sprinklers came on.
I am from nights with friends roaming through fields and places that catch my eyes,
1AM NBA 2K video game sessions and watching my voice in case my parents hear,
playing football in my yard for hours not keeping track of score.
I am from families of aunts, uncles, and cousins,
cousins joking around with me but still thinking I can take them.
Games of capture the flag seeing which cousins will win.
I am from a family that like to travel and get the most out of the opportunities,
learning through experiences on how people live with what they have,
and refusing to put sunscreen on then being apple red and regretting it five hours later.
All of this started in a town, and a friendly neighborhood
