If only my dog was me

Sometimes I find what I want
in the eyes of a dog.
Staring and Soulful,
more caring, more woeful.
Secretive and yet so simple,
Dogs are a perfect pinnacle
of something more successful.
more humble.
more truthful
than anything I could wish to be.
If only, if only,
my dog was me.
