The Messenger
With closed eyes
and open ears,
The ever-present whispers
become impossible to ignore.
The hushed echoes
carry the sobs of adolescents;
The breaths
of heavy
Whiskey-scented
"I love you"s.
The pained murmurs
of fragile promises,
and the dripping tears
of a broken heart
that somehow bleeds
more
than a broken bone.
In the moment
of muted heartbreak,
I begin
to understand
why God died.
