If you love something
Set it free
You lean over
And say this to me

If you love something
Let it go
When it comes back
You might never know

As I think
Of our history
I think about you
I think about me

You say
Our ocean was rough
I disagree
I say it was tough
You say what’s the difference anyway

I pretend
There is none
But I know
There is one

We had it tough
It could have worked out
But with your impulsiveness
It started going south

Was it rough
You ask
Is it tough
I say
Why does it matter anyway

We’ve had this conversation before
I know it well
I think this time
My heart might swell

So now I have the same conclusion
That I did the last time
I knew, from the very beginning, this
Relationship was a crime

Now I say this just in time
With the best thoughts in mind

If you love something
Set it free
It will come back
If it’s meant to be

This is one of my favorite poems that I've written. I really like the saying, "If you love something set it free." I believe that if you love something and set it free it might come back to you. That saying makes me smile, so I hope this poem will make you smile too.
