nostalgic summer
saccharine songs turn to sweet slices of summer
worn off and out at the ends but full to a fault
of nights where we stayed out too late
of mornings where we watched the sunrise
through sleepy eyes, the guise of childhood peeled back
souring like an orange in the sun
the end of fun to feel the words rolling
from shallow tides, minds too
where the world’s waters have not merged or marred
back then summer only marked the beginning of our lives
now the summer turns nostalgia
the tide runs dry

I wrote this piece reflecting on my love hate relationship with summer. I like to challenge myself with my characters and in this poem, I envisioned myself as an adult reflecting back on summer and it’s nostalgic association with childhood.
