I don't know how to tell you hi,

And how to say your sadness makes me cry,

And well,

I don't exactly know what's happening,

You don't talk to me about anything.

And can't help but try and think,

Of all the ways I might have broken our link.

Out of my friends you had stayed the longest.

There have been those who cried,

those who lied,

And those who tried,

One who turns to me when she needs to chat.

But it hurts to know you cant talk to me like that.

Because I don't want to say goodbye,

And I just don't understand why.

I'm scared I wouldn't know what to say,

because when it comes to words,

the only ones I can say,

are written in ink.

And well,

I think,

you're never going to read this,

This letter to an old friend.

The author's comments:

I wrote this poem in the hopes of showing the loss I feel, and the sadness I recognize knowing things don't always stay.

The loss in this poem isn't death, but the absence of a friend. It doesn't hurt only because they aren't there, but it's the knowing that person is there and chooses to be absent when they were once one so close to you, that is what hurts.
