P-R-E-T-T-Y?
Pretty girls spelt with pretty names
Scare me
And I can’t stand next to her
She’s too perfect for this world
Her life makes my head swirl
She’s pretty smart
Pretty skinny
She’s got the looks
And all the money
She’s all I’ll ever be
Hope no one would see that
I stopped eating when I met you
Descended from the skies
The girl in the books they write
Pretty smiles
Perfect side profiles
How can I feel great when you’re around?
She’s pretty smart
Pretty skinny
She’s got the looks
And all the money
She’s all I’ll ever be
Hope no one would see that
I stopped eating when I met you
Descended from the skies
The girl in the books they write P-R-E-T-T-Y?
Do I write about you all the time?
I can’t keep a lie
P-R-E-T-T-Y?
Am I high all the time?
I swear that I’m fine
No, I’m too used
From all of the blue
that I’ve been through
She’s pretty smart
Pretty skinny
She’s got the looks
And all the money
She’s all I’ll ever be
Hope no one would see that
I stopped eating when I met you
Descended from the skies
The girl in the books they write

I hope this song captures something that so many of us feel—especially during the first year of high school, when everything is being thrown at you. From physical changes to social adversities, I remember feeling so lost in the crowd while still trying to figure myself out. This song stayed in my notebook for a while, and it kept changing throughout my sophomore year. I thought it was cringey and overly sensitive of me to write such a song, but seeing so many people resonate with it made me so happy.
