This Wordless Promise
It’s a summer morning
You’re up earlier than normally
The weather is hot, and
It’s the perfect day to swim
You pour yourself some coffee
As you walk into the kitchen
You drink a cup every day
No matter what the
Thermometer may say.
I watch you make your toast
Fry up some eggs
You sit across from me
You don’t say anything
All I can do is watch
A small smile on my lips
You glance up and see me staring
And you grin your grin again.
I think I breathe to make you laugh
I think I live to see you smile right back
I try to make your time with me
Time that could make memories
And my heart warms every moment
You look into my eyes, and I can
Feel your love, seems like
I’ve won some priceless prize
I make your lunch
So you can leave for work
And you kiss me on the cheek
It’s little things like that
That make you extra sweet
I watch you leave and for a
Fleeting second I’m scared
You won’t come home
But then I see you’ve left a note,
with nothing on it, A wordless promise
You mean to keep
I think I breathe to make you laugh
I think I live to see you smile right back
I try to make your time with me
Time that could make memories
And my heart warms every moment
You look into my eyes, and I can
Feel your love, seems like
I’ve won some priceless prize
I’ve never felt more alive
Than when you’re by my side
And this is so dreadfully cliché
But there’s not a part of you
I could change, and we’re not perfect
No we’re not idolized but
There’s nothing more precious
Than seeing you be mine.
I think I breathe to make you laugh
I think I live to see you smile right back
I try to make your time with me
Time that could make memories
And my heart warms every moment
You look into my eyes, and I can
Feel your love, seems like
I’ve won some priceless prize.
