Mindless Conformity
Don’t know why I’ve wasted so much time
Stuck inside my own lies,
Trying to fix something that was never real.
I smashed my heart open time after time
Only to find this unreasonable bitterness.
I always wanted an escape.
I was always unsure.
Like an avalanche you hit me with a force.
Buried me under in blurred images and your twisting words.
This hypocrisy just isn’t what I want, or what I need.
I don’t want to travel this road anymore
I’m sick of being trapped behind your love
That was never even real anyways.
I don’t want to stand out in the middle of this wreckage,
The storm’s already blown over and I need
Some clean air to breathe.
I guess everything comes with a lesson,
This love wasn’t perfection.
Only a mindless conformity.
I hated the way you’d laugh at things
That weren’t even remotely funny.
The way you did you hair,
Let’s not even go there.
You tore me down and built me up
With your intricate words.
But they couldn’t mean less to me now,
Just like you and all your games.
I need some space of my own
I need some time to grow
Find out who I am and what I need,
Something you could never give me.
This thing that we had, at the time wasn’t so bad
But looking back now,
It seemed like we only hung on because we didn’t know what else to do.
We stayed together to avoid falling apart,
but we both know now that were much better off.
Like a sunshine on a cloudy day,
I can see the light, nothing’s gonna blind my new life.
Cause’ your hypocrisy isn’t what I want, or what I need.
