Ophelia
there’s a cat by the fire
sittin pretty all alone
but reflected in her eyes
is a story still untold
see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead and gone
Hamlet is in England
and Lartes thinks you’re wrong
flowers falling from the sun
cover your hands and feet
your world is crumbling about you
can you take the heat?
Chorus: you lost a lover and a friend
a father and a brother
and so long ago that you forget
you also lost your mother
garlands of flowers
choking you with their sweet scent
take them and remember me
and off you went
two young men
fighting or’ your grave
Hamlet cried
Lartes died
then Hamlet’s life was cut short
by the same sword
alas poor Yorick
what can be done
oh look things just got worse
here the Norwegians come!
Chorus
It began with a king
he was killed by his brother
the brother took the throne
and married Hamlet’s mother
Hamlet got pissed
then he went insane
you followed suit
but you weren’t to blame
chorus
your worlds in shreds
what’s a girl to do
everyone you knew
underestimated you
*whispered chanting* you’re a girl, you’re a child, you will never marry acting like this, can you be a lady, you’re not good enough, Hamlet never loved you (keep repeating “Hamlet never loved you” until silent part)
finally what they said
began to sound true
slows down: you were never good enough
there was only one thing to do
*silence*
Chanting: Ophelia, Ophelia… (gets louder on every word)
OPHELIA! (loud but still with whispered tone)
*bass note*
there’s a cat by the fire
she sits pretty all alone
but in her eyes of liquid gold
a girl stands still
her tearful story forever untold
