Trench Warfare
I'm sitting here beneath this burden
Of broken truths and small white lies
Thinking everything is fine, when nothing is
And the fragile tension will go awry
I'm sitting here thinking what life had done for me
So far, it been a trail of land mines
With one step, I'm approaching a threshold
Of the darkest place you find
And of all things I wish to get out
But you see, I just don't know how.
And you know this is the last place I want to be
And this is the last thing I want to see
Fighting in this war with the world
I'm trying to get out of this misery
But this fight isn't going to end
Because after all this there will be more
Harder and stronger and meaner than before.
And this is a life I can not bear
Stuck in this pit-hole I call a trench warfare.
I'm staring out into the night,
Thinking what I did wrong to deserve this mess
And each breathe I take
Is like a hit in the chest
And you pat me gently on the back
Like an army nurse right beside
I have a feeling you can heal my wounds
So I confide
Of all things I just want to be happy
But you see, it isn't easy.
And you told me:
" You know this is the last place I want you to be
But I'll be there when you need me
Fighting this war with the world
And we will walk past this no man's land
Because at one point this fight will end.
And you know after all this there will be more,
Harder and stronger and meaner than before.
But you know I'll be right there
Helping you dig out of this pit-hole you call a trench warfare."
And I knew this burden, was two of us to care.

I was having a rough patch the day I wrote these lyrics. I felt like I was having war with myself. Thank you Wendy for loosening my burden. Friends are always the best medicine.
