Con Partner
I’m headed down South with my Con Partner
To scam off the Mississippi line
The Sheriff can chase us but remember
He don’t know my name neither do I
I was working the wheel in Saratoga
Grounded by every daily grind
My partner told me over a smoker
Of the corporate illusion hid behind
I pawned off a diamond made of ashes
And stole me a word for which to call
I tried to abscond with Miss Virginia
But she tore the contract and knew it all
I’m headed down South with my Con Partner
To scam off the Mississippi line
The Sheriff can chase us but remember
He don’t know my name neither do I
I rattled the bars in Alabama
Talking my word to ball and chain
Swearing on Jesus for revenge
If someone would loan a boy to blame
I sold ‘em a nickel for a quarter
Left ‘em as happy as can be
Makes me wonder if it’s still a con job
When everybody falls asleep pleased
I’m headed down South with my Con Partner
To scam off the Mississippi line
The Sheriff can chase us but remember
He don’t know my name neither do I
Well the station broke down into the Gulf Stream
Watched one million dollars sink away
I was thinking I’d trade a life of treason
To erase a single meager day
I was a loaded man until I
Cocked back and found no magazine
Put me in stripes just like a zebra
And gave me a cage for company
