A First
My body is frozen
 My eyes are open

 My lungs are heavy
 My hands are empty

 My mouth is dry
 These ears don't try

 I stare out the window
 The sky stares back
 I don’t wanna seem callow
 But it’s you I lack

 There’s a first for everything
You and I are meant to cling
 To a voice, a memory
 Somewhere we wish to be

 My mind is numb
 My voice won’t come

 My feet are covered
 My head is lowered

 My smile is a lie
 No need to ask why

 Reaching out my hand
 Won’t do much good
 I’m alone with myself and
Still I reach more than I should

 There’s a first for everything
You and I now have to cling
 To a voice, a memory
 Somewhere we wish to be

 We are talking
 My soul is walking
To a place we can meet
 Where my eyes can’t cheat

 There’s a first for everything
