You put on your mask, and fake it oh so well
Just to pretend for a little while
You let their harsh words slide around you
‘Cuz if you hold on to them you’ll cry

They brush around and slice into you
As the words get meaner the cuts get deeper
And the wounds will bleed you dry

You hide in shadow, shrouded by the darkness that touches you
Hoping no one’s there to see you
You won’t open up; you’ve built a wall against them all

Your feelings contained within your heart
Never shown to anyone but him
He helped you make it when you weren’t strong

You put on your mask, and fake it oh so well
Just to pretend for a little while
You let his words and abuse slide around you
‘Cuz if you hold on to them you’ll crack

The makeup don’t cover the bruises and the scars
She knows you all to well
She takes you away from him
She keeps you safe for just a while, till the feelings get too strong

By now you’ve built that wall so thick no one will get through to you
You’ve closed yourself off from the world
And everyone you’ve ever known and loved are all far gone

You put on your mask, and fake it oh so well
Just to pretend for a little while
You let her harsh harsh words just slide on by
‘Cuz if you hold on to them
You’re gonna finally break

It just made me think a bit about her and even if it's not all true she's had a rough time and I made this so she'd know she wasn't alone :) <3 ily !
