Mockingbird's Song
Mockingbird’s Song
They say it’s a sin against God to kill a mockingbird.
But when they killed Tom, they went against their own word.
I don’t want much, its justice I demand.
I’m done with unfair treatment; it’s time to take a stand.
Click, clank, POW goes the gun, you just took a father from his son.
This happened many times, he’s not the only one.
Maycomb doesn’t care, to them I’m just a n*****.
They’ll point a gun at me and won’t hesitate to pull the trigger.
I feel bad for the way that I treated Toms’ family,
They needed help but, stupidly I was too blind to see
That Tom was innocent; his reasons for running were legitimate.
He did it strictly for his own benefit.
There’s no way that ya’ll should feel right about what happened that day.
Seventeen shots, come on! What else do I have to say?
You shot a father dead while his children play,
Now you gotta live with guilt and watch your life fade away.
Won’t be long until all of ya'll feel wrong.
I dedicate this to Tom; this is the mockingbird’s song.
