Fifteen Years
Every morning I’d wave goodbye to my dad as he drove away
And in the evening I’d watch the neighbors over the garden gate
And I loved the smell of damp earth in the winter
And I loved having iced tea on really hot summer days
Smiling with the sun
Laughing at the rain
And now we’re moving away
I don’t want to go
I don’t want to stay
I want a new life
but also for things to be the same
I crave the old and new
but there’s nothing that I can do
‘cause everything’s gonna change
I’ve got memories
Of these fifteen years for always
Every afternoon I’d look at the garden my mom designed
And every dusk I’d watch the pink clouds floating in the sky
And I loved seeing my little hummingbird friend
And I loved reading books in my favorite arm chair
Chasing my shadow
Breathing in the air
And now we’re moving away
I don’t want to go
I don’t want to stay
I want a new life
but also for things to be the same
I crave the old and new
but there’s nothing that I can do
‘cause everything’s gonna change
I’ve got memories
Of these fifteen years for always
This is the town where I grew up
It will always be my home
It’s a safe place
My home base
It’s everything I know
And now we’re moving away
I don’t want to go
I don’t want to stay
I want a new life
but also for things to be the same
I crave the old and new
but there’s nothing that I can do
‘cause everything’s gonna change
And I wonder where I’ll be
Fifteen years from this day
