Playing Pretend
You pushed me down
You watched me fall
Picked me up
Then repeat it all
I never left
You made amends
That was enough for me
in the end
But I wasn't enough for you
You did what I couldn't make myself do
You dropped the act
Didn't leave me time to get back
on my feet
Hide from the heat
of this hell
You let go of my hand I fell
I gave you everything of myself
But in the end
You were just playing pretend
I held you up
to a higher view
Dusted off the pedalstool
for you
You said jump
I asked how high
All to avoid
Having to say goodbye
But it wasn't enough for you
Why could I see we were through?
You dropped the act
Didn't leave me time to react
Didn't leave me time to get back
on my feet
Hide from the heat
of this hell
You let go of my hand I fell
I gave you everything of myself
But in the end
You were just playing pretend
I gave, you took
I overlooked
Your grip that choked
Then said it joked
You screamed, I cried
So full of pride
You didn't even know
You were wrong
Saying that I didn't belong
Saying that I wasn't strong
enough
That I wasn't tough
You dropped the act
Didn't leave me time to react
Didn't leave me time to get back
on my feet
Hide from the heat
of this hell
You let go of my hand I fell
I gave you everything of myself
But in the end
I was just playing pretend.
