My First and Last True Home
I know what this must look like,
Me, coming here tonight,
You don’t me, I don’t know you,
All I ask is a moment to,
To tell you some things you should know,
About my first and last true home.
Right there, where that wall’s all bent,
Is where my first flower bed went wrong,
And do you know that next to the mail box
That big old maple there was home to a hawk?
On the east side of the yard there’s a pine,
Been there since I could count to three,
Under that ole’ pine, cats three times nine,
And seven dogs lay there peacefully.
I know what this must look like,
Me, coming here tonight,
You don’t me, I don’t know you,
All I ask is a moment to,
To tell you some things you should know,
About my first and last true home.
In that little room on the house’s seams,
You can still the holes in the wall,
Where I thumbtacked all my dreams,
And wished I could get away from it all.
Well, when I was sixteen we went away,
My momma found somebody new,
We drove far into a better day,
And when no one cried my heart was slew.
Sir I know this is wrong, but here my memories belong,
You don’t just ask to see your old home again.
Sir, I know what this must look like,
Me, coming here tonight,
You don’t me, I don’t know you,
All I ask is a moment to,
To tell you something you should know,
About my first and last true home.
It’s my, my first and last true home.
