I Wish (I Had Stayed)
It was the most profound moment of being away,
It stuck to me like the wind and the rain,
There were pink skies and flowers
And a pretty girl in a pink dress,
And she spoke to me in fairy tales,
But her head was a mess.
And her pink dress was ruined
By either her teardrops or the rain
The moment I told her I didn’t feel the same.
I made my baby cry,
I know I lost the most perfect baby,
No, but our lives lost our rhyme,
We couldn’t live our lives apart being just fine.
And I saw her from the trees
As I swung from the sky,
She was sitting in the grass,
And I knew she would cry
When she looked up to her pink sky
And I whispered my goodbyes.
I knew I lost her and everything she was,
I wanted her more than a married man does,
I wanted to hold her every night until she fell asleep,
But suddenly my promises I just couldn’t keep.
I made my baby cry,
I know I lost the most perfect baby,
No, but our lives lost our rhyme,
Sometimes I wish we had more time.
And like how the clouds get in the way of the moon,
I just couldn’t see its light from the comfort of my room,
And never with ease, the tides have changed,
Soon the distance of our love rearranged.
In a forest, in a tree by a stream,
In the waters, objects reflected are closer than they seem,
Seems our love lost its touch,
From too close and too far away,
With all that I had I couldn’t stay.
I made my baby say goodbye,
I know I lost the most perfect baby,
No, but our lives lost our rhyme,
With all my heart, I wish I could change my mind.
See a girl in a dress running through the field,
I wish her heart could easily be healed,
I remembered her yesterday,
Today her scent fades away,
With all that I am, I wish I had stayed.
