The Fighter
(Intro)
They call me a fighter.
I have gone through these rough times,
But I’ll still come out on top.
Now I’ll name a few
and if you listen,
Good for you.
(Verse 1)
I had a best friend
She always kept to herself.
The only girl who could
Ever figure me out.
God bless her soul,
I pray for you every day.
She took a bottle of pills,
And never woke up the next day.
(chorus)
Sure,
Life will push you around.
You’ve got to pick yourself up,
Even when it knocks you back down.
(Verse 2)
Outcast,
That’s what they called me today.
They picked on a boy that was half their size.
And sure I could slap them around.
Give them a dose of their own medicine,
Truthfully, I’d rather not.
So I took him by his shoulder,
And I led him away.
The bloom of a friendship,
That he would never betray.
(Chorus)
Sure,
Life will push you around.
You’ve got to pick yourself up
Even when it knocks you back down.
(Verse 3)
Now let’s be honest,
I’ve got my own list of issues too,
And if you add to them,
Congratulations,
You’re just as messed up too.
I take medications for my disorders,
That reside in my head.
Trauma and mental illness;
I wouldn’t wish on a soul.
Now listen,
You’ve gotta fight your way through
And never pity yourself.
Cause if you do that,
Hon, you’re only killing yourself.
(Outro)
Sure,
Life will push you around.
You’ve got to pick yourself up,
Even when it knocks you back down.
Fight your way to the top,
Don’t let anyone bring you to your knees.
Don’t let them see you hurt.
Wave it off,
It’s okay.
Take your feelings out
At the end of the day.
I believe everyone is a fighter. Everyone has problems and has the strength to conquer them in their own way. This song is about how to get through those problems, and the beauty that will come out of them, if you just let it happen.
