Frozen
We are all trapped in a world of dust
Of plaster, ash, and hardened pumice rock
Passerby look upon us with disgust
Forever frozen in our state of shock
Danger had always been here in Pompeii
Overlooking us from the skyline
Vesuvius proved this that deadly day:
August 24th, AD 79
The mountain’s dust solidifies and dries
Having spilled into our homes from the roads
We had nothing to stop our near demise
So we froze and became encased in stone
We could not have foreseen our final foe;
There’s no word in Latin for “volcano”
