Matt Duffy is a Private in the Army. He wakes up one day in a hospital bed and is awarded the "Purple Heart". But he does feel accomplished. The doctor explains to him that he got injured by an RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade". He is also suffering from TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). After spending time recovering he gets sent back out to Iraq. He has four roommates; Charlene, Figueroa, Wolf, and Justin. They undergo a "cease fire" so they basically just lie around and chill. But one memory haunts him. Before he got injured he befriended a child in Iraq named Ali. But he remembered that Ali died in a shootout. He thinks in some way that he was involved in his death but he doesn't remember how. This bothers Matt for a long time. He thought about it all day, every day. He realizes that throughout the duration of the "cease fire" Justin is acting very strange. One day, Matt and Justin go out on a patrol. They patrolled the area where Ali got shot. Matt asks Justin a few questions about the event and investigates the area. He starts to put the pieces together and realizes that Justin shot him. Justin explains to him that he worked for a sniper so he wasn't innocent. This book truly shows the bravery, courage and strength that it takes to be a part of the military.
