Twilight Book Review
Twilight, written by Stephanie Meyer, turned out to be a really terrific book! It was one of Stephanie's most successful books. It continued its success through the entire series including New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn, It was fantastic because it really kept you turning the pages! When I first heard about this book, I totally was not interested in reading it. It was about vampires, which I don't find any interest in, and the size of the book also intimidated me, thinking I would never be able to finish it. But my opinion changed quickly after I got a few chapters into it!
The theme of this book can be included in many different themes, but if I had to choose one it would be to accept things for what they are, even if they are a little different and also not to pre-judge anything. One of the main characters, Bella, is a perfect example of following both of these rules. She is a 17 year old girl who just moved to Forks, Washington and lives with her dad, Chief Swan. She meets Edward Cullen at school and they become very close. She never pre-judged his family, when everyone said they were a little strange and really only kept to themselves. In this situation, Bella wanted to get to know Edward. She is also accepting of others because Edward is a little different then a normal teenager. It turns out that he is a vampire. As their friendship grows he shares more and more secrets with her. Every time he tells her something more about his identity, he expects her to be frightened and run away from him. But it turns out that she accepts him for who he is and actually finds his life fascinating.
Twilight fits into the genre of most likely adventure and romance. The adventure of Twilight is following Edward everywhere he goes. Following his character you read that he can run faster than any normal animal, can read people's mind, and only eats animals not people. (Even though it is difficult for him) The adventure of Bella is finding out more and more about Edward and seeing how she reacts to every adventure of secret that he shares with her. It would also be romance because Edward and Bella fall in love throughout the book and become really close!
I learned to love this book, and the writing style was just as good. It was really suspenseful and kept you reading. Even though I was frustrated when the reader didn't know where Edward was when Bella was is Biology, it really kept me reading until I found out where he was.
This book is set in a small boring town of Forks, Washington. Bella used to live in sunny, dry Pheonix, Arizona with her mom, but moved to this cold wet area because that is where her dad lives. She moved because her mom went to Florida for a little while and she had to stay with her dad. Bella doesn't enjoy her new, gloomy town that much mostly because of the weather, but once Edward comes along her opinion of Forks changes completely. Along with the narrator's voice as Bella is perfectly relatable. Everyone is put in those awkward moments like she is and she just blushes, but gets over it like any real person. Most people don't like cloudy rainy days either just like Bella. The character of Bella Swan most of the time thinks the same way I would except for the fact that she doesn't get a little creeped out by Edward Cullen being a vampire.
Winning New York Time's Editor's Choice, An Amazon "Best Book of the Decade...So Far", and being translated into 20 different languages, this book has become a hit! I definitely agree. Overall, this book really turned out to be so much more than I expected. The entire plot was intriguing and I couldn't be more impressed with the outcome! I really am happy with it and hope to continue reading the series. Twilight keeps you reading and even though it looks really long and impossible most people are done under a week. It is really worth the read!
