Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” Book Review
“Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” is one of the many 5 “Percy Jackson” books. This series is amazing and has a great plot. This book is about the Greek Gods and how they all correlate to each other. Zeus finds that, the most powerful weapon, his lightning bolt has been stolen. He accuses Poseidon’s son and gives him a time limit to bring it back or the Gods will break out into war. Percy finds out that he is a Demi God the same day he loses someone close to him. A Demi God is a human or another organism that is half God. The next day “Camp Half Blood” plays a game of capture flag. Percy finds out he can control water and wins the battler for his team. Later that night, Hades appears in their bon fire and warns Percy that he can’t get his mom back until he brings the lightning bolt to him. Percy and his new friends Annabelle and his old friend Grover go on a quest to find the bolt. Throughout their quest they have to find blue pearls to escape the underworld once they’re in. Percy doesn’t have the bolt but thinks he can away with it. A friend at camp gives the bolt to him, but Percy doesn’t know. He gets himself, Annabelle, and his mom out of the underworld, but leaves his friend Grover. Later that night, that same friends comes and finds Percy and fights him. Percy escapes and brings the bolt back to Zeus on time. In return, Zeus brings Grover back from the underworld.
I enjoyed this book a lot. I love that the author, Rick Riordan uses Greek Mythology throughout his books. It’s action packed and adventurous. The whole idea of Percy being a normal school kid, but also being a Demi God, makes you feel like you could be something like a Demi God. This book is fantasy and has been well done to make it seem real and put in real life/present time. My favorite part in this book was the quest! When Percy, Annabelle, and Grover go to the second blue pearl, they have to break into a theme park. The author does a great job of bringing the park to life at night. The park itself attacks Percy and his friends. I would easily recommend this book to anyone. If you enjoy books like Hunger Games and Harry Potter, you would enjoy this. If not, give it a chance. I’m sure you would love it!
To finish, this book is good for a lot of kids, but some could be easily frightened by the images trying to be brought out in this book. There are a lot of battles and fights scenes. If you are not okay with you kid reading a violent book, pick this up and read it for yourself. You can read it and see if your kid would be able to handle it. This book isn’t that bad, but could still frighten some readers. If you were thinking about reading this book, pick it up and finish it. I strongly recommend this book to all of you. It was great!
