10 Things I Hate About You
For some reason, every person that I have met loves romantic comedy movies. But why is my question? Every single movie in this genre is the same cringy thing that we watch over and over again. Yet we still drool over the next one that comes out. Even though this movie is in that genre it isn’t too cringy I would say. Yes, there are some bits of that here and there but it isn’t the type that makes everyone want to stop watching. “10 Things I Hate About You” is a movie that will definitely be worth 97 minutes of your time. I will be telling everyone why this movie is worth watching.
The acting in this movie is done very well. When you get further into the movie the actors and actresses portray their feelings effectively. I really enjoyed how well the actors fit their roles. For example, I heard that in one of the scenes Julia Stiles, who plays Kat Stratford got so into the scene that she started crying even though it wasn’t in the script. No two actors are the same. Some of them go from being the popular girl that everyone wants to be with to the girl who finally realized who is right for her. Then there is the stuck-up girl whom no one would ever want to mess with a girl that finally has fun and enjoys herself. Each of the actors and actresses have phenomenal chemistry with one another. Also, for some couples, it's love at first sight and then there is a very strong love-hate relationship with the other. I absolutely love both couples that they portray.
In this movie from the very beginning, they show different sides of a story that eventually blend together to create a perfect storyline. Most movies in this genre only follow one person and everyone really knows only that side of the story. But not in this movie. In this movie there is not really a main character, there are more main characters. I would say there are probably 4 and those are the people that we follow and we kind of know what they are thinking throughout the whole movie. We never actually get a look at what any of them are directly thinking, so there is no narrator. But usually, we kind of know what to expect. It is like a split movie that eventually comes to one and it all makes sense. This is definitely not a typical romantic comedy.
This movie was actually inspired by Shakespeare. He is mentioned a lot in the movie and I never knew why until I found out that this movie was inspired by one of his plays, The Taming of the Shrew. This play was believed to be written in the late 1500s by William Shakespeare. I believe that their mention of him was portrayed threw Kat’s best friend Mandella. In almost every scene that she was in, she mentions Shakespeare. So if you think about that, not many movies are based on old-time plays such as The Taming of the Shrew. That is why it is such a great movie and was very popular especially when it was released in 1999. For these young actors, this movie was one of their first big hits and I believe that this movie was definitely some of their best work.
In conclusion, this movie had some incredibly talented actors and actresses in this movie. They definitely showed some of their best work and I would recommend checking out this movie. The way the director showed both siblings' stories in my opinion is very clever and everything fits perfectly together. Shakespeare inspired this movie and it turned out to be a phenomenal movie. So not all romantic comedy movies have to be super cheesy? Even though we all usually know the outcome, this movie gave the undeniable outcome a little bit of a twist. So if you are in the mood for a funny romance movie, “10 Things I Hate About You” is definitely one to watch and enjoy.
