My Big Fat Greek Wedding MAG
"MyBig Fat Greek Wedding," a sleeper hit starring Nia Vardalos and JohnCorbett, is the finest comedy to come around in quite a while.
Vardalosstars as Toula Portokalos, a 30-something Greek waitress who "seems like shedoesn't want to get married to a nice Greek boy," according to her Orthodoxfather.
When handsome high-school teacher Ian Miller waltzes into herfamily's restaurant one day, he barely notices her, but does she notice him! Afew scenes later, after Toula has taken over her aunt's travel agency, who shouldwalk through her door (after tripping over an old lady and suffering apurse-beating) but Ian, an extremely likeable character who definitely isn'tGreek.
The remainder of the movie follows their dates, Ian's adjustmentto Toula's family, and their wedding plans.
Based on Vardalos'sautobiographical one-woman play, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" surpassesany movie with a similar storyline. And the comedy - from Toula's father's beliefthat Windex is a panacea, to her cousin's incorrect translations for Ian - iswhat makes it great. But, that's my humble opinion. Go see this movie and formyour own. Oompah!
