Into the Wilderness follows James (Kodi Smit-McPhee), a teenage boy coping with the loss of his father and the struggle of the pursuit of happiness. Being the first indie movie I had ever seen, I can say it set the bar very high and will always be a favorite of mine. Impeccable shots and a stellar cast including Isabelle Fuhrman (Val) and Danny Devito(Dr.Pembry) give this film a raw and organic feeling, the underlying theme of the ‘wild’ within us all and the difference of leaving and escaping drives this movie to near perfection. It perfectly mirrors the two worlds that the main character James encounters, giving the film a contrast not found in many other films. Although some may say parts of the movie moved too slow, I can say that persanally I devoured every shot with fangs and a red tounge.
