Have you ever jumped out of a burning plane? What about getting shot at by a machine gun or a tank? For the men of Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division, US Army; during World War Two this was normal and everyday life for almost three years. My grandpa introduced me to Band of Brothers, and since then I have watched the whole series five times over. I would highly recommend watching Band of Brothers if you are into war movies, or shows. If you are looking for a new show to watch I would highly recommend Band of Brothers. Beware though, Band of Brothers does have graphic war scenes; and is rated TV-14.

One of my favorite things about this show is the intro. The intro is a two minute collage of different scenes throughout the show. It draws you in and makes you want to get to those scenes and find out what happens. The music tugs on you and it makes you think about what all of the men who served in World War Two went through. Michael Kamen did an excellent job creating this song and the soundtrack to the series. When the intro ends you see all of the surviving main characters standing on a hill talking to each other on a cloudy day. Continuing the theme of gloom, and making you think about what those men went through.

My second point is, if you are one of those people who hate when most things in a military show are wrong or aren’t accurate. I can confidently say that you will not have to worry about anything like that in Band of Brothers. Every cast member had to go through US Army Airborne Jump School, and basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Every actor knows when to salute and proper military etiquette. Band of Brothers has the small things right too. Like not saluting officers at the front, and high ranking officers not wearing their insignia in a warzone. Some examples of this are when during the Battle of Bastogne; Major Richard Winters (Damian Lewis) does not wear his insignia on his helmet, or shoulder. If you want accuracy in a show, I would highly recommend Band of Brothers.

Lastly, I really enjoyed how the show was put together. The writers did a tremendous job of drawing you into the characters, and you’re really able to get to know them in the first few episodes. For me, I was able to get to know Richard Winters (Damian Lewis) in the very first episode. Band of Brothers does a great job of making you realize that war is like a forest filled with predators, it is always changing and is constantly dangerous. And that war is not a good thing. I thought this while I was thinking about how much the characters changed throughout the episodes. Most of them for the worse. When you get done with the series, you start thinking about the characters. It makes you think about how much those men went through. It also makes you grateful, and hopeful nothing like World War Two will ever happen again.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend Band of Brothers as a new series for you to watch. Even though it is not for everyone, because of its graphic scenes. It is still a tremendous show. I really enjoyed this show because of how the intro draws you in, all of the small details are correct, and it’s great how much you get to know each of the characters. I am so glad that my grandpa introduced me to this show. It has given me a lot of insight into World War Two, and sparked an interest in me. I would not be as interested in World War Two, without being first introduced to this show. I hope that if you watch Band of Brothers you enjoy it as much as I have.
