What exactly does perfection mean?

WHY…

…am I a horrible person?

…am I a loner

…am I bullied?

…am I me?

…am I afraid?

…am I naive?

…am I alive?

...can’t I have the right figure?

…can’t I make mistakes?

…can’t I be smart enough?

...can’t you accept me for me?

…do people hate me?

…don’t you have time for me?

…did you leave me?

…don’t you love me?

...did you have me then?

…is everyone against me?

…is my best considered luck of effort?

…can’t I be perfect, huh?!

Perfection is a word used loosely. The society uses the word perfect for different reasons, but have you ever askes yourself the impact that word has on someone? Perfection is a word, which means without faults, or weaknesses. It also means having everything that is necessary and complete. Being perfect is fine, but what perfection are you trying to achieve? People all have their own SI unit of perfection, but a majority of the world set up an SI unit of perfection. These does have its pluses, because it helps people have something/someone to compete with, to compare with, to learn from. Though it does have its down falls.

People start trying to be exactly like the SI unit, they try to be/have the perfect; daughter/son, student, leader, brother/sister, body, hair, even skin color. Ask yourself this though, but why? Why do people want to have the perfect body, be the perfect person, do the right things, have the right things, why? It is the world’s peer pressure of reaching complete perfection, but it not only far away that it happens, but even people who are supposedly close to you do it. Some do it intentionally to hurt you, whilst other do it without knowing, though it does not mean it is wrong. The worst thing about not knowing, is that someone did not consider how the other person would feel like. The worst thing about doing it intentionally, someone is doing it out of spit, to hurt and diminish the other person’s self-esteem. It can be anyone who does this, friends, siblings, parents, relatives, anyone. Though it hurts more when it’s someone your closer to.

Wanting to be perfect is almost a sickness, because we want to fit in, we want others approval. The real questions though, should be what happens to those who succeed and those who fail, huh? Once people reach ‘perfection’, they would not want to go back. They obviously want to keep their new form they have achieved, meaning whatever made them get it, they will never stop. Sadly the methods which people use are; starvation, over excising, becoming anorexic, surgery.

Unfortunately, those who fail suffer even more. They keep trying these method repeatedly and some continuously fail. Some get killed by these methods, others prefer to do it themselves, and other people decide to kill them for trying those methods/failing these methods/not being able to reach ‘perfection’. I want to know one thing, why… why do we need to be perfect, why do we want others to be perfect? Can’t we set our SI unit of perfection? We all have different goals in life, different morals, backgrounds, so we do not have to compare ourselves with each other. Sometimes it is not bad to compare with each other to help grow, but sometimes it slowly turns into an unhealthy obsession.

We need to realize we are all unique in our own ways, and we should never try to be someone we are not. Though it is not only an individual who should be blamed. The world has to become a more tolerant, accepting understanding, non-judgmental place for people to feel comfortable in their own skins.

I wrote this piece to explain the struggles in people's lives. I felt that this article is relatable to almost everyone, because all of us have a form of self-doubt, making us want to reach the form of "perfection". But we need to realize that we are all unique, that we are all perfect!
