Deep Breath
I look down into the deep canyon and take what must be my thousandth deep breath in just the last hour. Was I really ready to do this? If I- miraculously- live, I’ll have an amazing story to tell. If I die… well, there’s not much to plan for. I pull my crossed arms from my stomach and step ten feet back from the edge. I take another deep, nauseous breath and can’t help thinking that this could be my last. It's time, my brain says. Time. I might not have much of that left. My legs aren't controlled by me anymore. They run to the edge. And I leap.
