Compassion
Give me Persephone pushing her hand down her throat and scooping the pomegranate seeds into her palms. Give me Persephone stomping down to Hell not because some oath sent her but because she heard Hades was depressed and lonely. Give me Persephone playing hide and seek with Hades and holding him through the depressive episodes saying, "I love you just the way you are." Give me her hugs like chamomile balm against his waist.
There was nothing romantic about it. Hades just needed to be loved, but also to love-
I remember Hades smiling the first time like a split open sun. I remember Persephone piggyback riding on Hades throughout the Underworld as they rapped Goodnight Moon to the melody of Kanye songs. I remember Hades laughing until tears were trickling out of his eyes and his chest ached. I remember Hades napping with Persephone, small smiles on their faces. I remember Hades telling Persephone he loves her, like family, like best friends, like nothing he has ever felt before.
Tell the world how Persephone chose love.
Ask the Underworld how much it changed.
