The Painting On The Wall

There is a painting that hangs in the middle of my bedroom wall. It had always stood out as the wall only had that one painting on it. I never knew where it came from or why it was there.  All I knew was that it had always been there ever since I moved into my bedroom. For the first few months, I would continuously turn around and take quick glimpses at the painting, quickly turning back around with the image of eyes staring deep into me stuck in my head.  Nothing about the painting made it particularly stand out but, at the same time, something was just so special about it. In my eyes, It was just an traditional chinese painting with red blobs, each one overlapping another one, black circles slowly bleeding through the red shapes and then creeping out the edge of the paper.  A painting with a chinese poem painted on the side which I had never bothered to read. But, the more I looked at it, the more terrified I got. The eyes of the shrimp, not round and cute but instead, straight, pointy lines piercing through mini red circles. At night, I would be scared the objects in the painting would jump out and bring me into their own world.  Eventually as I got more used to the room, I started hanging, and taping different things onto my bedroom walls. I found all sorts of different pictures, wrappers, and even some plants. I made sure to customize every little crack, corner and space I could find. AAll the colors matched perfectly and the painting that once stood out, finally blended in with everything perfectly.

The author's comments:

this piece is about something in my room which stands out from everything else because of the colors in it.  No matter how many things are taped on my wall, the painting is always the thing that stood out to me.  This story shows how I gradually grew to like the painting rather than dislike it.
