August 2022 Fiction Contest: Lonely Road
To hold or to be held. To love or to be loved. To die for the person you love or them die in place of you. Her mind spun with impossible choices to make. Walking down the barren road, gunshots echoing, she wept for the land she left behind. The brother, the mother. Both dead at the hands of Nazis.. For revenge was a thing that turned even the warmest hearts to rot, and, as she walked away from her shattered life, she felt the remnants of her sunshine heart slowly whither, break and freeze. She had a war to infiltrate.
