There was sixty seconds left in the game. It was tied at sixty. I threw the ball down low to Johnny. I could both hear and feel Coach Whiting’s intense hollering from the sideline. I knew that if and when we messed up, the repercussions would be severe. As Johnny faked to try and throw the defender off in order to get a clean look at the basket, I yelled his name from the top of my lungs, as I noticed my defender’s back turned to me. He then turned and noticed how open I was. As i noticed the ball coming in my direction, I got nervous and thought maybe right now wasn’t the time for me to take this and miss it. But I did otherwise, and the ball went straight through the net. The other coach called a timeout, and my teammates came running up to me giving me chest-bumps and high-fives. The smile Coach Whiting had after the game, said it all.
