The girl sat curled in her chair by the computer. Her fingers brushed the tops of the keys as she closed her eyes and tilted her head back. Then her bloodshot eyes flew open, and she leaned forward in her chair, her greasy hair hanging over the keyboard like heavy black drapes. Her fingers moved rapidly, the keys tapping and clicking.

From a doorway behind the girl, a mother stared at the hunched back of her daughter. After a few seconds, she turned around and walked away, wiping a tear from her eye.
