I had been playing basketball since second grade. I have always loved it and worked hard to get better. Playing in the NBA was my dream, and now it’s coming true. Right now I am sitting at the 2023 NBA Draft. I am expecting to be a pretty high pick as I have been working out with many different teams. Scouts were at all of my games last year for the Arizona Wildcats. I’m really nervous and the draft is about to start.

The commissioner just walked out onto the stage to officially start the draft and announce the first pick. The Cavs had the first pick and they were one of the teams looking at me throughout my college career. To start off all of the craziness I heard:

“With the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft the Cleveland Cavaliers select Kyle, University of Arizona.”

My family and I were ecstatic! I was selected as the number one overall pick in the NBA Draft. I would sign a contract and get to play professional basketball! I couldn’t wait for my first practice. I wonder what it’s like to sign autographs. This is just crazy!

Then I realized I had to go up on the stage and shake the commissioner’s hand. My way up was almost a blur. People were yelling and screaming while I was living my dream. I reached the stage, went up the steps and receive my jersey. I shook the commissioner’s hand, received my jersey, took some pictures, and finally returned to my table. We stayed and watched the rest of the draft, but I don’t really know what happened because I was daydreaming.

The next morning I woke up and had to go and meet up with the GM and sign a contract. I was hoping for some big bucks, but would really accept anything. I arrived at his office really nervous as for what was to come.

“Hello Kyle. Congratulations on being the first pick. How do you think you’ll like the Cavs?” the GM, Ryan Utrup, greeted me quite nicely.
I enthusiastically replied, “Hello Ryan. Thank you for drafting me. I think I’m going to love the Cavs.”

He then said it was time to get down to business and sign a contract, officially putting me on the team. He made a great first offer. Seven years, $25 million a year. I jumped on the offer; there was no way I was passing up this one. I signed the contract and was now a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. My hometown team, my dream has come true.
“Kyle! Wake up!” screamed my social studies teacher, Mrs. Carnabuci. “You have been sleeping the whole class. You’ve missed everything we’ve done!”
“Sorry Mrs. Carnabuci,” I said in a scared voice. That’s when I realized I was actually just dreaming again.
