It has now been around five years and counting. The feeling of pure happiness is all that
can describe this day. The day has come again to see the girl that changed my life for the better.
Her name was Rose a stereotypical red head, pale as beach sand, freckles all over, and the
personality of one in a million. We always met at our preferred spot and would eat lunch on the
same day every month. Our preferred spot was only two miles apart from each of our houses just
to make it fair in distance.

I rushed down the stairs as quick as I could , and grabbed my lunch I made the previous night;
then I bolted straight out the door. The walk never bothered me since we always met on the first
day of the month, which always felt like a new beginning. It didn’t take very long before I was
already there, and as expected there she was just like her name resembled. A delicate little flower
standing out for everyone to admire. She had the cutest smile on her face that said “I’m so glad
you’re here. Right under the maple tree “our own spot” we called it, what a boring name. As I
casually walked over a exchanged her a smile back, and sat right next to her. Rose was a mute
and had never been able to pick up sign language, thank goodness we were master lip readers.
We exchanged our greetings to one another in our own casual manner; same goes for the oh so
cliché “what’s up” and ‘how are you.” As we talked back and forth an elderly couple walked by
but they stopped and stared at me. Their puzzled looks finally caught my eye, and we had a stare
for a good while. They ended up just shaking their heads while they walked away in confusion.
Having to shake off the weirdness I proceeded to give Rose the lunch I prepared for her she
declined as usual. I didn’t mind one bit I knew she never was a big eater but I always prepare her
something just in case. I had realized just then that I couldn’t even find myself to be hungry.

In this case me and Rose always go to what we love to do most is just lay back and watch

the clouds. It almost felt like a daily routine of perfect harmony; Rose cuddling up to me as well
as myself doing the same. The admiration of the clouds was our favorite pass time together.
Constant pointing at our brilliant findings and the amazement on Rose’s face every time she
saw an interesting cloud made my heart skip. Time flew faster than any jet plane which only
brought my happiness down a peg. As of now the sun was setting on such a glorious day,
but the realization had now started to hit me. Rose and I both turned to each other knowing it
was time. A slight frown appeared on Rose’s face as her eyes looked down in complete sadness.
I placed my hand on her cheek to get her attention, and I lipped to her “Don’t worry you know
I will be coming again next month just like the last.” As that sentence ended I moved in for a
very passionate kiss. Our lips interlocked as tear after tear of happiness soared down her face.
I picked both if us off the ground, and gave her one last hug goodbye;  both of us not wanting to
I had to be the first.  As I start walking away I know in my heart that I cannot look back and
never will. In front of me however was the elderly man from earlier. “who were you talking to
under that tree boy” he says in a strong worrisome manner. I replied as I look down in sadness
with a frown forming on my face “A friend.”  “you know a girl about your age committed
suicide under that tree about five years ago.” He says. All that could be held in was, except for
one stray  tear as it ran down my face, my last reply to him was “yes sir.”
