Short Story
As we walk through the streets of the city that is home to the once tallest building in the world, we were in awe as we saw the enormous buildings and all of the homeless people performing their talents to try and get money. For most of the family, we had been to this great city before, but for my little brother, it was a first for him. But we quickly realized that time was ticking away. We had only 3 hours to enjoy the city before we need to be back at the Union Station to catch our 8:35 train back to the suburb of Glenview, where our hotel was. We decided to walk to Millennium Park where we could take in one sight, snack, and plan what we wanted to do for the rest of our short, evening stay. Once we arrived, we grabbed some drinks and a favorite Chicago snack, Garrett’s popcorn. We worked our way among the hundreds of tourists, to the magic bean and snapped our picture. As usual, my family could not agree on where to go next! Finally we agreed a visit to Willis Tower was a must, this would make everyone happy! After paying and watching a short film on the history of the tower, we got on the elevator.
The ride was faster that any of us expected making our ascent to the 103 floor. Our stomachs dropped and our ears popped, even chewing gum! It was hard to believe the feelings we all felt when we stepped out on to the sky deck. My stomach quivered, my brother (the one with no fear) was jumping up and down, out on to the glass floor overlooking the fantastic city. Our time was ticking, so we took another picture, proof of one more stop and decided it was time to move on to our next stop, dinner. You can’t come to the city and not eat at the Cheesecake Factory. And believe it or not, luck was on our side...there was not a wait at this famous Chicago restaurant. With full bellies, tired feet and time running out, we hiked back many blocks to Union Station, and caught our train home. We relaxed on the 45 minute ride back to Glenview and thought of our short and sweet evening adventure in the big city!
