WILLIAM'S DEATH
It was a warm sunny day; the birds were chirping and the flowers were vibrant. Katherine woke up to the smell of french toast, bacon, and hashbrowns. She came downstairs and her dad was cooking breakfast. She walked to the living room, where she saw her younger brother Alvin watching TV. He looked up and said “Good Morning Kath.”
“Good Morning Al,” Katherine answered.
“Foods ready,” they heard their dad, William, say.
“Okay, we’ll be right there,” Alvin replied for the both of them.
They went into the kitchen to eat breakfast. The three of them sat down and waited for Jennifer, Katherine, and Alvin’s mom. Jennifer came down the stairs and enjoyed breakfast with them. Once they finished eating they put everything away and Jennifer went to work at her real estate office. She was off to work so Katherine and Alvin went to their room while their dad, William, watched the football game. Alvin is a fifteen year old teenage boy who plays video games. Katherine was in her room on her desk writing an essay for her English class before studying for her physics exam. Katherine is too busy working and studying; she hasn’t had time to check her phone. Before she knew it, it was four o’clock and she hadn’t eaten anything since since breakfast, so she went to Alvin’s room and asked “Have you had lunch yet?”
He answered by saying “No, I haven’t and I’m hungry.”
“Want me me to bring you something from Panda Express?” she says.
“Sure, why not?” he said while still paying attention to his video games.
So Katherine decides to go to the Panda Express at UCLA, the school she currently attends. On her way there, there was a lot of traffic. When she gets there, she orders three plates to go because she knows her dad will be hungry and her mom is at work. In those three plates there was spicy chicken, chow mein, rice, and teriyaki chicken. She pays then she receives her three plates and starts to head back to her car when she sees her friend Elizabeth. She stops and says “Hi.”
“Hey, what are you doing here? It's Sunday” Elizabeth says.
“Just stopped by to get some food,” Katherine responds, holding up the bag of Panda Express.
“Oh nice. Well gotta go, before i’m late to class,” Elizabeth says walking away. “Bye.”
Then Katherine gets into her Honda and heads home where she finds her brother and her dad on the couch, too distracted watching TV to even notice that she had returned with food. Since they don't notice her and the food she brought, she goes to the living room and and stands right in front of the TV for a second before she jumps to the sound of them saying “Hey we can't see the TV!”
“Okay, I'll move, but food’s here.” she tells them as she gets out the way.
Right after she moves it is a commercial, so the three of them go to the kitchen and grabbed their plates, drinks, forks, and napkins before heading to the living room to watch the rest of the game. Katherine decides to watch the 3rd and 4th quarter with them. They watched the game and ate their food peacefully. Alvin and their dad are both sitting on the couch while Katherine made herself comfortable on the floor. Shortly after, the game ended, and Jennifer came home very tired from her day at work. Alvin went upstairs to do geometry and history homework while Katherine went to take a shower. Before she got in the shower she checked the time and it was 7:47pm. When Katherine got out of the shower she notices Alvin and her dad are gone. She goes and asks her mom where they went.
“Do you know where dad and Alvin went?” she told her.
Jennifer tell Katherine “They went Buffalo wild wings to meet up with some friends.”
“Hm okay, well I’m going back up stairs,” Katherine told her mom.
Katherine went to her room and started watching Pretty Little Liars. Half an hour later; her mom got a call from the hospital saying both William and Alvin were in the emergency room. Jennifer hung up the phone; she stared at the wall blankly as she rose and a tear drop rolled down her left cheek. She did not know if she should scream or fall to the ground. Jennifer did both; she wouldn’t take the pain of knowing her husband and son might die. Jennifer’s scream was so loud; dogs started howling, alarms off. Almost everyone in the neighborhood heard. katherine came running down the stairs; as if a cheetah was chasing her. She saw her mom on the floor crying, face all red. Jennifer could barely get any words out. She managed to say “Your father might die; Alvin too.”
“What?” Katherine asked as she started to cry. She could not believe what she had just heard. Katherine went to the kitchen; she grabbed the keys and made her way to the car. Behind her followed Jennifer.
They were on there way to the hospital when they were faced with traffic. It took them forty-five minutes to get hospital. They got to the hospital and were informed that William died from his injuries. Nothing could hold back their tears now; so, they cried until there eyes were red and puffy. Soon after a doctor approached them and asked Jennifer “Are you the mother of Alvin?”
“Yes,” she replied as slowly as she could. Jennifer was scared; she almost didn’t want to know in what state Alvin was in.
“We are requesting you have Alvin stay the night. We want to run a few more test,” the doctor continued as Jennifer looked at him with a worried face.
“Okay I understand,” Jennifer told him. She started to walk away when she turned back around to ask if she could see Alvin. The doctor was already gone. Katherine took her mom to the cafeteria to get some coffee. They decided to go back home and come back tomorrow. That night was a long and dreadful night. They could not go to sleep so at tree in the morning they were in the living room watching The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. By the end of the moving they were crying. It was now 4:30 a.m. They went to sleep and woke up 3 hours later. Katherine woke up first; she started crying and formed a puddle of tears. She remembered; she remembered all the good memories she had with her father. Katherine got scared to the sound of her alarm. That's when her mom woke up. They ate breakfast and headed to the hospital. There they got to see Alvin. He was in bad shape; he could barely talk. “Do I look okay?” Alvin asked.
“Not really,” Katherine told him sadly.
“You look fine sweetie,” Jennifer tried to say confidently.
“Okay, where's dad?” Alvin asked. Alvin didn't know yet-he didn't know his father had died. There was a dead silence; the room so quiet Alvin already knew the answer.
“When?” was all Alvin could say.
“Last night,” Jennifer said. The room was quiet; all you could hear was Alvin cry.
“it's okay; it hurts I know.” Jennifer continued, “We need to learn to live with it. It's going to be hard.”
Later that day Alvin was released. They went straight home. Over the next few day neither Jennifer nor Alvin went to school. The following week was the funeral. Family and friends of William attended. At the funeral Katherine spoke “My father may no longer be with us, but I will always remember him. I will carry those memories.” She went back to her seat. When the funeral was over Alvin started to feel really bad. He has pain all over;his body ached.
They took him to the hospital to see what was wrong. The doctors took x-rays; they found what was wrong. 3 hours later. Jennifer and Katherine were informed that Alvin could not control his bones and he died. After that day Jennifer became very depressed a suicidal. She would barely eat; she would cut herself at night. Jennifer would cry herself to sleep; yet, Katherine had no idea. Till one day she found a pocket knife in the bathroom. She went to go talk to her mom; Jennifer was crying. She'd been crying everyday- she’s cried everyday since Alvin’s death. Katherine calmed her mom down; she was able to talk to her.
“I think you should see a specialist,” was what Katherine first told her.
“I don't need help,” Jennifer said sobbing.
“We should go anyways; you're in bad condition,” Katherine continued. That night Katherine did some research. She found a specialist that could help; Katherine couldn't stand the fact of also losing her mother. Every night Katherine knew, Katherine knew her mom was cutting herself more and more. She knew in her head she needed to find a way; if she didn't find a way to save her mom, her mom would kill herself.
Katherine thought of plans. She kept her plans a secret. Till one day she walk into Jennifer’s room; Jennifer was on the floor. A knife in her right hand; her left arm covered with blood. Katherine was frightened; but, she was able to focus and concentrate. She wrapped Jennifer’s left arm in towels. Jennifer had fainted; so, Katherine had to carry her to the car. She grabbed her keys and went to the hospital. At the hospital Katherine found out that Jennifer’s blood type was rare. The doctors needed find someone who had the same blood type soon. Jennifer had lost a lot of blood; therefore, she needed more or she would die. Katherine got a blood test to see if she was the same blood type. She got the results back; she was the same blood type as her mom. Without thinking she told the doctor she wanted to donate her blood to her mom. What Katherine didn’t know was that Jennifer needed a lot of blood; so, when she donated her blood to her mom, Katherine died.
