Ballet
Attention seeker.
She continued dancing her way through the day.
Twirls to third period.
Pirouettes to fifth.
Her smile is glued on by a child's unsticky Elmer's glue stick. The nail polish on her perfectly manicured nails remains pristine. The only thing noticeably wrong is that her teeth are stained with white paint and her stomach is whispering to no one for help.
Her feet keep leaping from one pliate to the next. Bows don't come for another three hours and her next move will land her in sixth period.
But it doesn't come to her as naturally as her dance usually does.
Sixth period is intermission. Overpriced snacks are served in the lobby.
The CD playing her song scratches in the stereo. The same tune stuck on loop.
Attention seeker. Attention seeker. Attention seeker.
Her smile starts peeling off. Her ballet slippers meld with the ground. Her stomach lets out a piercing shriek that this time everyone can hear. And she falls.
But at least she falls gracefully.
