Chocolate
The Day I Exchanged Chocolate For Love
I vividly remember growing up in a house with an older brother who my parents absolutely adored and having to spend countless days dwelling over the fact that I received no love and affection from my mom and dad. I would do anything and say anything in order to attract their attention. Unfortunately all of my efforts were not working.
Sundays were the days my mother and I spent together just hanging out and doing girl things. We would toast poptarts for breakfast and then head out to the local grocery store. It was a typical Sunday afternoon and we were performing our normal routine of going to Publix. We began in the produce section as usual and slowly we made our way throughout the entire store. Finally we reached the last aisle and immediately the candy section caught my eye. I had never laid my eyes on something so magnificent and so beautiful. Those little tiny pieces of happiness just sat there staring at me with it’s orange and black wrapping. Thoughts were running through my head and I knew deep down I needed that Reece’s piece of chocolate. My mom turned around and I reached over and grabbed a couple pieces, quickly shoving them in my pocket. I glanced about my surroundings and figured my actions went unnoticed, considering the aisle was empty or so I had thought. Shadows began towering over me and my heart dropped. In that exact moment I knew I had been caught and my life was ruined. Tears began festering in my eyes and all I could think about was how mad my parents were going to be when they found out i was committing a crime. The manager explained to my mom what he had just witnessed and he simply asked me to put the candy back where i had gotten it.
Even though I had gotten in so much trouble that morning and my mom was so disappointed in me, I knew from that moment forward that I was finally receiving the attention I wanted from my parents.
