She moves closer,
Inquiring
I sat across from my life
I watched it rot
Still, her eyes blazed with fear and hope
I could not respond
Not right now
But there’s really no need to procrastinate
This might be one of the few times
I will ever see her
An answer…
An answer…
She grows anxious now
Frightened by my soundlessness
My eyes flit, float to her feet
Her left shoe is untied, blue, and lonely
I carefully stand, aware of the lightning in the air
I kneel quietly and pick up her laces
Under, over, loop, loop, knot
I make sure it’s tight
