August 2022 Fiction Contest: Happily Ever Afters
Most fairytales don’t end in happiness. The prince saves the princess from her tower, the dragon is vanquished, the kingdom rejoices. But that is where the story begins. Where the threads of fate unravel and life finally opens up. What happens when the princess discovers she doesn't love the prince? When she realizes that the dragon was not as wicked as she seemed? What happens when she grows teeth and claws and wings of her own and leaps into the sky? Well, a new tale begins. After all, happily ever after is simply another way of saying once upon a time.
