Awakening under a rock, Remi heard her friends calling her to come out and play. Hurrying out she met up with them as they started playing around the woodland area together. That was until they got to crossing the river. Her friends Adira, a rabbit, and Emma, a fox, crossed easily, skipping along the rocks with no problem along with the other animals that were with them. But Remi being a small and slippery salamander, was scared when she saw the rushing current of the river and the aggressive splashing, she coiled back.

“Come on Remi! We’re going to start playing tag!” Adira yelled across the roaring river.

“I’m scared! Uh… I’ll just go back home! There’s no way I can make it across!” Remi yelled as loud as she could so her friend could hear her over the rushing water.

“Oh, okay! We’ll see you later!” Adira ran away afterwards to the others, leaving Remi behind on the other side of the river. About to walk away sulking, she comes across an older looking turtle, she had heard about him from the others, his name was Carter.

“Oh hello!” Remi exclaims, surprised to see him right in front of her when she turns around.

“Hello young one…trying to cross the river?”

“I was, but it's too strong, I don’t think I could without getting taken by the current…”

“Well the current is just strong today, come back tomorrow and it’ll be more calm, I promise.”

“But that takes too long!”

“Patience is key, young one. Come back tomorrow.”

“Okay…” Remi walks away, staring down at her feet, upset that she couldn’t play with her friends today, but having hope that she will be able to tomorrow. She heads home and goes to bed, the stars shining brightly through the trees.

Waking up early the next morning excited to see if the river was calm. She didn’t wait for her friends, all probably still asleep and at home. Running through the trees as fast as she could, she finally got to the river to see that the current was calm and rested, the rocks being dry enough for her to jump across them with no problem. Only moments later she heard her group of friends nearing the river.

“Guys! I can play today! The river isn’t as aggressive as yesterday!

“Oh my gosh! That’s great Remi!” They all exclaimed before pulling in Remi for a hug, telling her how much they missed her yesterday when she wasn’t able to play. Remi sees Carter coming into view and runs up to him with open arms.

“Thank you Carter! The river is much calmer today and I can play with my friends!”

“I told you, patience is key. I knew it was going to work out for you!”
