NSSRA

Since I was a little girl, I have enjoyed riding and working with horses. Whenever I walk into a barn, my day is immediately better. Horses are calming creatures, and over the years I have learned that they can bring a smile to everyone’s face. Helping out with North Suburban (IL) Special Recreation Association (NSSRA) has become the most important activity that I have participated in. By volunteering to lead horses around while children with disabilities rode them, I was lucky to have the opportunity to give back to my community. More than that, I was able to make this contribution through the sport that brings a smile to my own face. Volunteering at NSSRA was rewarding because it allowed me to see numerous disabled children’s faces light up as soon as they were put on a horse, and seeing them happy made me feel that my time was being well spent.
