Don't Do it For College
Oftentimes I hear from my peers, "Yeah, this class will raise my GPA and get me into a good college." It is frustrating to know that some students, if not most, are now prioritizing grades over the actual learning experience. I know too many students in my school who only participate in certain activities to obtain the minimum requirement for community service hours or an extra-curricular activity for their college transcripts. As someone who genuinely enjoys the overall high school experience, I believe it is important to just enjoy what you sign up for, whether it be classes or clubs.
Yes, many colleges find you more competitive if you are involved with community service and take APs. However, more colleges are interested in knowing what interests YOU. Have fun, love learning, and enjoy high school!
