Freedom of Speech
Every year, over one million people immigrate to the United States for one main reason, Freedom, according to Wikipedia. An estimated 12.8% of people living in the United States are born in another country. As the melting pot, Americans provide the best right anyone could ask for: freedom of speech.
In eighth grade, our class took a trip to Washington D.C for four days. We went to the Holocaust Museum and it was heartbreaking. There was millions of lives lost, because freedom was taken away from them. I read one man's story that was in a concentration camp, and it revolved around freedom. Once he was released from the camps, the man felt freedom and happiness.
When I was 13, I went to see the Veteran Memorial wall in D.C. The two acre wall, with names of all the veterans that fought in the war, was moving. On one of the graves of a veteran, it said, “The Price of Freedom: 58,220 casualties.” This quote on the man's grave reminds everyone how grateful we should be for our veterans and for my freedom.
Everyday, our troops fight so we have the privilege to live our lives with the right of freedom. Every Year, Immigrants come to America looking forward to have the right of freedom.
