“Compared to the area I grew up, here it's much more diverse. In my town, pretty much everybody is white and has the same background. There are no real immigrants, only people who moved from one town to another and ended up in the same town where I grew up. The few other ethnicities or people with different race or cultural background is maybe a dozen. I was very reluctant in learning English to a point of what's the point of learning English, nobody in my town speaks English, completely missing out on how small the world has become. As a field engineer, I would see a lot of different people, different culture, different languages. Many jobs requiring interacting with other people who speak not your mother tongue and most commonly they speak English, a very international language. Learning a different language is something I would tell myself to put more effort in.” (Parsippany NJ).
