Pt. II: Purity
Purity.
There the heavenly angel sat upon her cloudy throne
Adorned in medals of gold, silver, and pearls like foam
Her body is white, her face a porcelain moon
With a love so fertile and flower eyes which bloom
In a dandelion sun, sparkled amongst the sky
For a world so beautiful, watch as she flies
Imagine it, if you can. Purity, untouched bliss
Imagine it, ignorant of life’s bitter kiss
Imagine it, would you want that life?
One without trouble, without strife.
Maybe not, maybe so
Fantasy, come and go
My first girlfriend was a trip. She had three other boyfriends prior to my sorry ass. She knew how to kiss, she knew how to cheat, and she knew how to break-up. I wondered what I did wrong, was I too quick in my temper? Was I lacking a certain slickness or heartthrob quality?
It was only after that I realized that I lacked reality, and she lacked purity. I sought salvation in someone else, it is a mistake and a dangerous pitfall of emotion. Love is like an investment, one should spread it around, diversify your portfolio like your heart, because if you don’t and the market crashes, you’re bankrupt.
I was in a deficit, I was devastated. I was innocent.
Do not take this as a cynical thought however, one should always hope. I continue to seek “the one’ but I now know that my future wife will not be perfect, no one is. True purity of love is the admiration and devotion to another’s faults.
Purity is a goal, like peace. Abstract concepts to be sure, but they need a realistic framework in order to be accomplished.
