Role Model?
As a child, I didn’t have a role model. Not a real one, anyway. I didn’t want to grow up to be a princess like Cinderella. Nor a singer like Hillary Duff. Not an actress on her own TV show, like Raven Symone. These were the people I knew about, the people my friends wanted to be. “I’m gunna be a veterinarian” was a common one. “I’ll be a famous ballet dancer” another. But I wasn’t a rational first grader. I knew what I wanted to be. A star. Not a movie star or a pop star, a real star in the sky. That might have been where the strange character started; me lying on the bedroom floor, imagining I would float up into space. I’m not sure where I got this idea. I seem to recall a movie, but it may have been a dream. You can never be sure.
